Beautiful Ballerina Reviewed

Sarah's Rating: 4 out of 5 Stars

"Okay mommy, I'm ready for the next one." I turn the page and Sarah looks intently at the picture before trying to recreate what she sees: Left arm arched above her head, right arm to the side, head up, right leg bent,  left leg out in front with pointed toes. After reading Beautiful Ballerina, written by Newberry Honor Winner Marilyn Nelson and looking at the photos taken by Susan Kuklin, Sarah has spent the last 30 minutes dancing with her ballerina music.

"Beautiful ballerina, you are the dance." Wonderfully written prose comes alive with photographs of dancers from the Dance Theatre of Harlem, a company that was co-founded in 1969 by Arthur Mitchell and Karel Shook "in response to the assassination of Dr. Martin Luther King. Jr."

This is a simply beautiful book that inspires and motivates enough to get my daughter  up and dancing. Any book that leads to action is a book worth reading.
