Sarah’s Rating: 5 out of 5 stars
Out of 10 books that Sarah picked
on our recent trip to the library, Those Terrible Toy-Breakers by David McPhail, was, by far, the favorite. Someone has been breaking Walter's toys and
Bernie is sure the culprits are a lion, tiger and elephant. In order to prove
it, they set up a trap to catch the delinquents. Walter is wary of using his
favorite teddy bear as bait, but goes along with the plan, hoping to catch
whoever is ruining his toys.
Originally written in 1980, the
last edition I have found is from 1992. You are not likely to find a new copy,
but there are numerous used books available online. I was actually surprised by
Sarah's response to this book. I definitely didn’t expect her to read it to her
babies, or bring it to every book reading session we had. Without prompting,
she was able to apply the story to her own life, explaining what she would do
if her cousin broke one of her toys or if she broke one of her cousins. Sarah's
5 stars rating of Those Terrible Toy- Breakers was clinched when she made
reference to the book after returning it to the library: That type of endorsement
is not often bestowed upon a book.
Don’t take my word for it, take
Sarah's: Those Terrible Toy-Breakers is a great read
